Review | The idea of traveling to a new place makes us feel anxious as we try to predict how life is going to be around new people and how we are going to leave everyone and everything that we are used to. More often than not, when we get to the new place, we usually find that it exceeds our expectations. SandPeople: An Across Time Mystery by Cheryl Kerr is a fictional children's book full of adventure. Lea McKinney, a twelve-year-old girl, is in shock after her parents announce that they are separating. Lea is told that she'll have to spend the summer with her aunt Meg, whom she hardly knows. Her brother, T. J, will be staying with their grandmother. Lea is furious at first, but she eventually comes to accept the decision of her parents. The thought of leaving her best friend, Laura, and the place she was so used to makes her sad. After the preparations, her mum accompanies her to her aunt's place. While in Texas, Lea explores to escape from boredom. One day, while deep in thoughts about her family, a girl dressed in a long blue dress appeared along the beach where she was. She looked straight at Lea for a moment, but before Lea could talk to her, she vanished. What was left where the girl was standing were two little heaps of sand that looked like people. Lea was determined to find out who the girl was, whether she was a ghost, and the reason the girl appeared to her. This book begins with a prologue and contains ten chapters. It has two hundred and sixteen pages. The author uses |
